Witness Bethlehem and the events surrounding Jesus' birth through the eyes of two neighbors, Johanna and Suzanna, who just happen to live next to the stable where Jesus is born. Each of them is appalled at the idea of a baby being born in a stable, yet neither is willing to make room for Mary and Joseph in their already-full houses. They are both changed, however, by the night's events so that when the kings from the east come on the scene, both Johanna and Suzanna have made room in their hearts for the King of heaven. Suggested songs: No Room Away in a Manger What Child is This The First Noel Hark the Herald Angels Sing Angels We Have Heard On High Silent Night God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen We Three Kings O Come All Ye Faithful Joy to the World Have You Any Room for Jesus Most of the memorization falls on the shoulders of Johanna and Suzanna. The angel, and shepherd each have one line. Mary, Joseph, the innkeeper, and the kings don't have any lines (unless you have the kings sing the verses on We Three Kings). You can use as many kids as you like as additional angels, shepherds, and sheep. Script is on CD Microsoft Word format $5.00 |
| Sample Page Two houses with windows are on one side of
the stage, the stable is in the center, the inn is on the other side of the
stage. As the play starts, the stable
should be closed. Johanna occupies the
house closest to the stable and Suzanna, the other. They are looking out their windows. Johanna: My word, Suzanna, did you ever see so many people? Suzanna: Not in my lifetime! I'm certainly glad that Caesar Augustus didn't send me and my hubbie gallivanting off to another city just to be counted. Johanna: Yes, I'm
very glad that Suzanna: Well, my Aaron says it's all about money. We've got it, and Caesar wants it! Johanna: (sighs) I wonder how many days it will take to get everyone counted? It is kind of interesting to watch if one doesn't have to venture out into the chaos. Look at that fellow—the one with the long line of camels. Suzanna: And the long line of women. Who does he think he is, Solomon? And that guy—does he need to bring his whole flock of sheep through town? Johanna: Oh, look at
that poor thing. (Mary and Joseph
appear on the scene and cross in front of the women during their conversation.) Suzanna: My goodness, she looks like she could have that baby any time! Johanna: I'll say! I hope they have a place to stay. Suzanna: It's not likely. It's getting late. I'd offer, but I've got a full house myself. Johanna: Me, too. Looks like they are going to try the inn next door. (Mary
& Joseph knock on the inn. It is opened by the innkeeper) Suzanna: Well, don't just stand there—go see what you can find out! Johanna: Oh, all right, I suppose I do need to talk to Jahaz about ....about.... Suzanna: Oh, go complain about his noisy stable. Johanna: Yes, I haven't done that for a day or two. (Both women leave their windows.) Song (solo): No
Room (during the song, the innkeeper
shows them to the stable) |
